Bagged Milk To Be Replaced With Loose Milk By The End Of 2024

Food - The Easter Canadian novelty of bagged milk will soon disappear from grocery shelves due to a growing disinterest in large format dairy as well as the pressure to eliminate single-use plastics. In its place Dairy Farmers of Ontario say they plan to release a new product in grocery stores called “loose milk”, a communal bucket of milk that shoppers can scoop out from. This new format will allow shoppers to customize the amount of milk they want and pay by weight. Consumers are encouraged to carry the milk out by hand or to put it in a waterproof reusable shopping bag. Loose milk has begun being sold in test markets throughout Guelph and Windsor, and should roll out across the rest of Ontario this summer, and Quebec and Atlantic Canada by the end of the year.
